    Good Morning!

I have a question for all you experienced painters out there. At what point/stage do you remove the pencil lines from your painting? I really like using them as a guide and fear I will “lose my place” if I remove them too soon, yet I don’t want to get them “caught” under the paint! I’d like to hear what you do!

    Hi Martha
I go over my pencil drawing with blue tack before I start this will lighten the pencil then rub out when all the first washes are painted.

Thank you! that’s a good idea! I have to admit, removing the pencil line is one of my favorite parts!

    Hello Martha
Rita has a good point there. I tend to remove the outline pencil lines after the first washes are laid. After that I remove the detail lines as I go. Don’t rub the surface of the paper as this can drag and damage the surface. I like to press the eraser firmly over the pencil to lift it.
