Stages to a Painting

The process of my painting technique…

…is always evolving but generally starts the same, and ends the same. Starting with a couple of wet into damp washes establishes all of the lightest tones and highlights I want to keep, I then move on to build the midtones with further wet on dry glazes, and begin to introduce the texture and detail. last, I work my darkest tones and strongest mixes with a ‘just damp’ brush to get all depth, shadows and contrast. As well as the finest details.

And there it is. In this video I take you through the stages of my Iris painting to give you an idea of how it all comes together.
