Painting wet into damp washes
This is one of the most important techniques I use for nearly all of my paintings. By applying the paint into an already damp surface, the colour pools and spreads the moment you drop it onto the paper, and it does amazing, spontaneous things.
Learn the technique with this great little exercise video. You only need a small scrap of hot pressed watercolour paper, one brush, one colour and two pots of water. One to apply the clean water glaze, and the other to clean your brush. That’s it. Have a go.
