‘Sunnymead Drive October 2025’ (2026)

This painting was created from a leaf found on an autumn walk. My parents had just accepted an offer to sell the family home, and I needed to take a moment of calm.

A walk can relieve so much tension. Conflicting thoughts can be compartmentalised, and plans can be made. On this day, the importance of this small daily ritual became symbolic when a Ginkgo leaf suddenly found its way to my feet. Usually I don't pay too much attention, but that day I stopped to pick it up. I found myself mentally tracing its shape and form, mapping each line as if reading the lines on my hand. I was lost in the moment. Suddenly becoming aware that I had been standing in the street for some time, I continued my walk, carefully carrying the leaf home

The botanical watercolour painting is named after the Ginkgo tree lined road where I found it. I wanted to go bold, and I wanted to pay homage to the many artists who have captured these inspiring subjects. The name is also a nod to the inspiration of Rory McEwen who named his Ginkgo after the place where he found his leaf.
